What could you do with 150,000 hours of Natural Team-Based Audio Communications?
The Fearless Steps: Establishing Apollo Audio Archive is a mini-workshop, organized as a satellite event at the IEEE ASRU, 2019 in Sentosa, Singapore. The workshop is going to be held on Monday, the 16th of December, 2019 from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM . The venue is The Commune, Village hotel Sentosa, Singapore.
FEARLESS STEPS:
Center for Robust Speech Systems (CRSS) at University of Texas Dallas is working to establish and provide a free massive audio archive for use by researchers, engineers, scientists, and historians in the fields of: (a) Speech & Language Technology, (b) Scientific bases of Human Engagement and Team-based Task Learning, (c) Audio Preservation, Archiving, and (d) STEM Education of one of Mankind’s greatest accomplishments (the APOLLO Program + supplements from current ISS & NASA HERA audio).
COMMUNITY PROJECT:
CRSS-UTDallas is pursuing an NSF Collaborative Community Infrastructure project to recover and provide this massive audio corpus to researchers/educators in the science, technology, and educational fields. This Mini-Workshop is intended to capture the needs of the Community for access and use of this potential corpus (WE NEED YOUR FEEDBACK!). Over the past seven years under NSF support, CRSS-UTDallas recovered and diarized 19,000hrs of Apollo-11 & 13, and released all corpora, diarized transcripts, and supporting meta-data freely to the community. We are engaging the community to expand this effort to complete all audio recovering of the Apollo Program, with supplemental audio from current ISS (Inter. Space Station) communications and NASA HERA (Human Analog training environments on Earth). The resulting audio corpus will exceed 150,000hrs, and include fully automatic diarized time-stamped scripts for use by the community. This naturalistic multi-channel corpus of NASA Apollo Missions is expected to provide resources for those studying individual and team-based problem solving, historical archiving, speech technology advancements, and STEM education.
REQUEST:
To continue our efforts, we are proposing a follow-on NSF project to take “the Next Steps” and recover all of the APOLLO missions, along with supplements from ISS & NASA Human Team Analog audio. However, to accomplish this – we are looking for potential “early adopters” who could benefit from this resource, as well as providing us feedback for this potential community resource.
- How would you use FEARLESS STEPS data to help your field of research?
- What meta-data & ground-truth knowledge is needed to ensure success?
- What tools or resources would you need to navigate the corpus ?
- What NEW research & education directions could you explore with this Community Resource?
